The lyric soprano Eyrún Unnarsdóttir was born in Akureyri, Iceland. As of season 21/22 she is a part of the solo ensemble of Lucerne Theatre and has performed numerous roles there including Tatiana in «Eugene Onegin», Feldmarschallin in «Der Rosenkavalier», Mimì in «La Bohème» and Countess Almaviva in «Le nozze di Figaro». She will be seen this season 24/25 as Elettra in «Idomeneo», Rosalinde in «Die Fledermaus» and as the title role in «Luisa Miller».

Eyrún has been praised for the ​​”warmth and passion of her voice” (Luzerner Zeitung), it has been said she “impresses with her precious timbre, her supple voice leading and her text-precise creative ability” (BR Klassik) and that she “manages to bring out all the subtleties of the vocal line with a clear yet warm voice.” (Der neue Merker).

In 2019, she made her house and role debut as the Countess in «Le nozze di Figaro» with the Icelandic Opera and was nominated as Singer of the Year at the Icelandic Theatre Awards in 2020 for her portrayal of the role.

Eyrún is a prize winner of the International Vocal Competition Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg for her portrayal of the role of Fiordiligi in «Così fan tutte», followed with the role of Agathe in «Der Freischütz» at Stadttheater Baden.

As a recitalist and collaborator, Eyrún performed «Le Marteau sans maître» by Pierre Boulez at the Arnold Schönberg Center in presence of the composer. She appeared in recitals at the Lucerne Theatre, performing both «Vier Letzte Lieder» by Richard Strauss and «Wesendonk Lieder» by Richard Wagner and she has had numerous appearances in «Pearls of Icelandic Song» at Harpa Concert Hall, to name a few. She also appeared with Herbert Grönemeyer and the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra in KKL Luzern in 2021 singing one of Herberts compositions.

She received her vocal training in Vienna at Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst and at the private university of Musik und Kunst.

Her former and current teachers include Leopold Spitzer, Uta Schwabe, Charles Spencer, Niels Muus, Sigríður Aðalsteinsdóttir and Hanna Dóra Sturludóttir.
